Mastering the Function Dial: A Guide to Radionic Analysis and Intensity

April 30, 2026

Close-up of the Function Dial on the Berkana Labs 9 Dial Radionic Instrument, showing the Under Function (UF) and Over Function (OF) intensity scales for analysis and treatment.

The nine dial Instrument includes a tenth dial separate from the nine rate dials, this is known as the function, or intensity dial. This is used primarily for analysis purposes. The function dial is initially set at 0, this is the reference point for the intensity tuning functions. The left half of the function dial comprises the under function section or UF, this can also be considered an intensity section for a (-) negative polarity. The right half of the function dial deals with the over function, or OF, this can be considered also like an intensity section for a (+) positive polarity. The basic procedure for analysis is as follows.

Understanding Polarity: Under Function (UF) vs. Over Function (OF)

In the context of radionic analysis, the function dial allows the operator to determine the state of the target's vital force. The Under Function (UF) side typically represents a deficiency, low vibration, or negative polarity, while the Over Function (OF) side represents an excess, high vibration, or positive polarity. Finding the specific point of reaction helps establish the baseline "intensity" of the condition being researched.

Step-by-Step Analysis Procedure

  1. With the target witness placed on the input plate, set the rate dials to a specific target area. In this example we will use the Thyroid gland with a rate of 2687 from the freely available Copen Organs and Symptoms rate book which you can find on the Berkana Labs website download section.
  2. At this point we can either connect the stick pad to the radionics output socket if you have one, or we can use the output plate as a basic stick pad, alternatively you can use a pendulum to dowse for the function dial tuning.
  3. With one hand on the function dial and the other hand on the stick pad, begin to lightly stroke the surface of the stick pad while simultaneously tuning the function dial from the middle 0 counter clockwise to -100 UF (Under Function), if there is no stick reaction from 0 to 100 UF, turn the dial clockwise again slowly while using the stick pad. If it reaches the middle 0, then continue to move the dial clockwise into the OF (Over Function) range. If it reaches +100 OF Without a stick reaction then slowly move it counter clockwise while using the stick pad and trying to sense a stick reaction.
  4. In most cases the dial will find a stick reaction around -30 UF or +30 OF depending on whether the target is under active or over active, or we could say low vibration or high vibration, or intensity. I find this to be a relatively healthy range. In extreme cases this can spike to -70 UF or +70 OF, beyond 70 UF/OF is unusual. The ultimate aim is for the dial to reach 0 to find an ideal balance.

Treatment and Measurement

With the Function rate established we can make a note of it somewhere, in this example we have tuned 20 UF, so we can assume the thyroid is under function by a factor of 20. We can now use this as our baseline to measure going forward. We apply a radionic treatment as usual and broadcast the 2687 thyroid rate to the target witness which is now placed on the output plate. Set the function dial to 0. Broadcast time can vary, and is usually dowsed with a pendulum over a time chart to determine the amount of time needed. If in doubt, broadcast overnight or for 24 hours.

  1. Once the broadcast time has completed, you can then re-measure the UF/OF reading. Place the target witness on the input plate, and retune the function using the steps previously outlined above in point 3. Make a note of the new reading.
  2. If the broadcast has been successful, the reading should show a swing to the opposite direction. In this example the 20 UF reading has improved slightly to around 15 UF, between the 10 and 20 markers.
  3. Make a note of the new reading and repeat the treatment broadcast procedure, place the witness on the output plate and set the function dial to 0, again dowse the broadcast time or leave overnight.
  4. Repeat this process daily until the reading reaches 0 on the function dial, and continue for at least 3 days after to monitor the level.

Compensatory Rates: Solving Stalled Broadcasts

Should the broadcast not prove effective and the function dial shows an increase, like in our example if 20 UF, became 30 UF and so on, then we need to apply a different type of broadcast.

  1. We need to set a compensatory, or balance rate for the treatment broadcast. This is the inverse polarity to the standard rate. We have used 2687 for the thyroid previously, so we now need to change this to its mirror. This is done by subtracting the digit from the dial maximum of 10. As follows 10 – 2 = 8 , 10 – 6 = 4 , 10 - 8 = 2 , 10 – 7 = 3, this gives us the compensatory rate of 8423.
  2. Place the witness on the output plate and set the new rate of 8423. Set the function dial to the opposite of what you have measured, in our example the measurement is -30 UF, so we set it to +30 OF. Dowse the broadcast time, or leave overnight.
  3. Move the witness to the input plate and re-measure the function, if it has been successful you should see a swing to the positive, our 30 UF reading has become 20 UF, make a note of this reading. Move the witness to the output plate, set the function dial to +30 OF again, even though the reading has changed, and keep the compensatory rate of 8423 set. Dowse the broadcast time or leave overnight.
  4. Continue to repeat the measurement and broadcast process until the function reading reaches 0, or until it goes just over.

You can sometimes find that the function reading will not shift as rapidly as you hoped. In this case, I would set the function dial to +100 OF if the reading has stalled in the under function, and -100 UF if stuck in the over function. This gives it the extra impulse needed to move, and will usually be quite rapid so remember to monitor and adjust accordingly.

Other Approaches

For the more metaphysical aspects such as manifestation, you can still utilise the analysis function in a similar way, if you were cold scanning for a cause of “what is the cause of me not getting the job I want?” for example, then you can set a compensatory rate for that cause, and monitor the progress with the function dial until it reaches 0 and finds balance.

For broadcasting in manifestation I would generally set the function dial to +100 OF, like “turning it up to eleven” to quote spinal tap. You could always dial it back if you wanted a more nuanced approach to the manifestation situation rather than full intensity.

Conclusion

This just serves as an outline for utilising the function dial. You may find a different way of working with it that suits you. The relationship between the operator and the instrument is highly subjective and one approach does not necessarily work for everyone. You do not even need to use the function dial, it is just there as an additional tool the operator can make use of if required, and hopefully the explanation and steps outlined above give you and idea of what can be achieved with it.
